Carp River

Description and Background

The Carp River begins at Paradise (Carp) Lake, flowing over 10 miles to Lake Michigan in Cecil Bay. It is home to the federally endangered Hungerford’s Crawling Water Beetle. Most of the river is surrounded by forests, but there is also a county park and a tribal organic farm, Zibimijwang. LTBB began monitoring three sites on this river in 2016: CPR1 at Cecil Bay Park, CPR2 at Zibimijwang Farm, and CPR3, located just north of Munger Rd. This river will be assessed for tribal uses and attainment after data is analyzed. The surrounding wetlands have been monitored since 2017.
