2026 Fiscal Year Operating Budgets
In accordance with the Tribal Government Budget Formulation and Modification statute, the last enacted budget will take effect at the beginning of the 2026 fiscal year.
The Tribal Resolution for the 2026 Fiscal Year Operating Budget’s motion failed at the April 24, 2025 Tribal Council meeting. This is the proposed budget on which hearings were held.
In response to the failed Tribal Resolution, and to comply with the Constitution and Budget Formulation Statute, Tribal Council passed a Tribal Resolution for the 2026 Fiscal Year Operating Budgets on May 1, 2025, in time for the Annual Community Meeting which was held on May 3, 2025. The budgets were based on the 2025 Fiscal Year Operating Budgets.
The Tribal Chairperson vetoed the Tribal Resolution on May 30, 2025. She submitted a veto statement with a budget sheet within.
According to the Budget Formulation and Modification Statute (WOS 2020-006 Sec. XII. 5.), if the Chair vetoes the budget, then he or she must submit an Executive proposed signed Tribal Resolution and new proposed budget along with the veto to Tribal Council within the 30-day time period allowed for the veto.
A signed Tribal Resolution and new proposed budget were not submitted with the Executive veto.
The Tribal Council motion to override the Executive veto failed on June 26, 2025.
As an Executive signed Tribal Resolution with new proposed budget was not submitted within the 30-day period allowed, a vote on an Executive proposed budget could not take place.
Please, see attached for the last enacted budget, which was enacted on April 26, 2024, and will take effect as the 2026 Fiscal Year Operating Budgets on January 1, 2026.
